Twenty Years at War (working title) traces the evolution of the F-15E Strike Eagle through two decades of continuous combat, from the mountains of Afghanistan to the fight against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
Drawing on extensive interviews with the pilots and WSOs who fought in these conflicts, it reveals how the jet - and the people flying it - adapted to relentless deployments, rapidly changing threats, and some of the most complex air campaigns in modern history.
From the first use of the BLU-118 thermobaric bomb and the chaos of Roberts’ Ridge to the punishing “No Gas, Kick Ass” missions of OIF and the kill-box fights over Kobani, it captures the realities, pressures, and ingenuity of modern air warfare.
This volume, the second in the F-15E Strike Eagle Story series, also charts the Strike Eagle’s transformation into a true 21st-century combat system, covering the introduction of AESA radar, advanced targeting pods, precision weapons, and the tactics that emerged in response.
It brings readers inside danger-close CAS, special operations support, encounters with Russian Su-35s and Su-27s, and the ethical and emotional weight carried by crews who executed thousands of strikes.
Spanning 2002–2023, Part 2 is both an operational history and a human story - an unfiltered look at the aircrews who fought America’s longest wars and the aircraft that became one of the most indispensable tools of modern conflict.
Finally, the book describes the updates applied to foreign variants of the F-15E, and covers in detail new variants that have been both proposed and sold over the course of the last 20 years. This includes F-15K, F-15SG, F-15SE, F-15QA and F-15EX.
